Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) occurs when blood clots form in deep veins, typically in the legs, and can travel to the lungs causing pulmonary embolism. At Prime Vascular Care, we provide same day evaluation and advanced deep vein thrombosis treatments to reduce risks and restore circulation.
Leg Swelling
Restless Legs
Redness in Legs
Rapid Heartbeat
DVT often develops when blood flow in the veins slows down or becomes stagnant. Common risk factors include prolonged immobility (long flights, hospital stays, bed rest), recent surgery, injury to a vein, family history of blood clots, certain medical conditions, pregnancy, hormonal therapy, obesity and smoking. An early diagnosis with duplex ultrasound can prevent it from increasing.
Duplex ultrasound is the gold standard
Early detection reduces complications
Common after long travel or surgery
Increases risk for pulmonary embolism
Not everyone with DVT experiences symptoms, but common warning signs include one-sided leg swelling, pain or cramping starting in the calf, warmth and redness over the affected area, and skin discoloration. Understanding DVT is important as it can help you recognize these signs. If you develop sudden chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing up blood, or rapid heartbeat, seek emergency care immediately as these indicate the clot may have traveled to the lungs.
One-sided leg swelling is most common
Pain often starts in the calf
Emergency signs require immediate care
Early recognition prevents complications
At Prime Vascular Care, we use advanced venous ultrasound imaging to quickly and accurately detect blood clots. This non-invasive test allows us to visualize blood flow and confirm the presence of clots. In certain cases, additional imaging or blood tests may be recommended for complete evaluation.
Non-invasive ultrasound imaging
Quick and accurate detection
Visualizes blood flow patterns
Additional tests when needed
We review your symptoms and medical history immediately to determine if urgent ultrasound is needed. Our team understands the seriousness of DVT and ensures there are no delays in getting you properly diagnosed and treated.
Complete symptom and medical history review
Immediate identification of emergency signs
Same-day ultrasound scheduling available
Emergency referral coordination when needed
Our certified sonographers use advanced duplex ultrasound to map clot location and severity. This detailed imaging allows us to see exactly what’s happening in your veins and create a treatment plan tailored to your specific condition.
Real-time blood flow visualization
Precise clot location and size mapping
Comprehensive risk assessment
Immediate results discussion with patient
The goals of treatment are to prevent clot growth, reduce symptoms, and stop new clots from forming. Depending on your condition, treatment may include anticoagulant medications to prevent clot extension, thrombolysis or thrombectomy for large or limb-threatening clots, compression therapy to reduce swelling, or IVC filter placement when anticoagulation isn’t safe.
Blood thinners for clot prevention and stabilization
Advanced clot removal for severe cases
Compression therapy for circulation improvement
Protective filter placement when medication isn't suitable
We provide follow-up visits to ensure successful treatment and monitor for complications. These appointments help us track your recovery progress and reduce your risk of future blood clots.
Early recovery assessment at one week
Clot resolution confirmation at one month
Long-term outcome evaluation at three months
Comprehensive prevention education and support

If you’re experiencing symptoms like one-sided leg swelling, pain, or warmth, it’s important to get evaluated within 24-48 hours. However, if you have chest pain, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing, seek emergency care immediately as these could indicate the clot has moved to your lungs. We offer same-day appointments because we understand how concerning these symptoms can be.
The duplex ultrasound is completely painless – it’s similar to the ultrasounds used during pregnancy. Our sonographer will apply gel to your leg and use a small device to create images of your veins. The entire process typically takes 15-30 minutes, and you’ll get your results right away so we can discuss next steps immediately.
Not necessarily. The duration of blood thinner treatment varies depending on what caused your Deep Vein Thrombosis and your individual risk factors. Some patients may need them for 3-6 months, while others with ongoing risk factors might need longer-term treatment. We’ll work with you to determine the safest approach based on your specific situation and monitor you closely throughout treatment.
Most patients can continue light activities and work, but we’ll give you specific guidelines based on your treatment plan. Walking is actually encouraged as it helps improve circulation. However, you may need to avoid high-impact activities initially. We’ll discuss what’s safe for your particular case and help you gradually return to your normal activity level.
Prevention strategies depend on what caused your initial DVT, but generally include staying active, avoiding prolonged sitting, wearing compression stockings if recommended, staying hydrated, and managing underlying health conditions. If you travel frequently or have surgery planned, we’ll give you specific prevention strategies. We also provide ongoing education during your follow-up visits to help reduce your future risk.
At Prime Vascular Care, we prioritize your well-being with compassionate, patient-centered treatment and clinical excellence.
